A tip to keep your black engine looking good:
Clean it throughly, blow off the water or start it up and go for a short ride, return home and spray some Armor-All on it. It will smell a little when hot but will give a nice look when done. Just be careful around the rubber bits as it might age them.

I use Home Depot house brand Black gloss indoor/outdoor and it works just fine. Looks good and stays on. think it runs under $3 a can.

Painting engine=huge mess. Air cooled with fins it will never stick. Guys here have done it apparently with decent results, but decent is in the eye of the beholder. LTD engines were not painted from the factory, they were bare aluminum, MKII engines were not painted, they were a hard finish like powdercoat and even that would wear off and get rock pits in the front. 1973 Z1 engine was painted, but Kawasaki learned their lesson there and did not paint in 1974. My dads 1984 Honda Goldwing engine was painted silver from the factory, I guess because bare aluminum would corrode. Better off with corrosion I'm afraid, the silver did not fare well. I haven't vented about painting for a while now and feel better:laugh: but take my word painting an engine is not going to work in the long run on the street. Like I say beauty is in the eye of the beholder though. If corroded aluminum looks bad, maybe paint would be a temporary improvement, but cuts resale value to zero to me, so I won't buy at any price after this "hack" repair.
321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.
