KZ1000 Side cover
18 Apr 2009 05:46
I have a 1977 KZ1000 LTD I restored. I decided to ride it into work the other day and the right side cover came off and hit the pavement. Needless to say it is no longer intact. Where can I find another right side cover and a tail piece? My tail pice cracked on me. I'm more concerned about the side cover for now.

I would start by replacing the little rubber gromets that hold on your side covers before you lose another one. you can buy them at z1enterprises

I just lost one friday as well...it was a lighter weight reproduction thought with holes in it...it had plastic automotive type pushpins to hold it on.
The stock one on the other side stayed on fine. I will be wiring it one, and the new one when I get it.

I took out my aur box and replaced them with K&N Pods.
Every one is telling me to replace my rubber grommets, that's not the issue. My pant leg might have caught the cover and it's gone. I need a replacement cover. Ebay didn't have a lot to offer. I was hoping someone might have one lying around.
Should I block off that area where the air box use to be? Is the to much air going through that area, say at 95 MPH?

Drilling through the plastic pegs or pieces that snap into the grommets and then using a cotter pin or small hitch pins will retain the side covers. You must remember to pull the pin before removing the side covers and re-install them afterwards.

Don't put your rare sidecovers in danger to get lost, only because the rubber grommets are dried out, fallen apart or completely missing. Essential for snug fit of your sidecovers are pliable rubber grommets, replace them in time with a set of fresh grommets
