Kawasaki Green was created by ThatGPzGuy
Hey gang, I have been making plans to re-paint my ELR replica but was not able to find the paint code. In this month's Retro Motorcyclist they said Kawasaki Green is actually an AMC Pacer color.
Hard to believe but I went to AutoColor and the Green Apple color looks pretty close.

There are many diffrent shades of Kawi green, Standox has 4 or 5 different. Latest Ninjas have a bit darker shade that the old one but they are so close you really cant tell.

That link Green apple looks darker than what I was expecting...

Maybe just me but I was thinking/remembering a brighter green then that.

That isn't Kawi green which was used on the KZ1000R (ELR). I went to the KZ1000R.com website and cut a bit of color out for you to compare to the "green apple".

You´ll be pretty dang close if you take the color from ´04 ZX-10R for example. Very closed, I have compared some bikes....(pics taken att our sommer place june 2005)

If you want exactly the same you´ll have to find one ELR in original green and in mint condision. Then borrow oner side cover and have that analyzed for the correct formula. We´ve tried to find the "right" shade but no succes.

Thanks for the replies everyone.
As far as the Pacer color not being the right one it is hard to tell from that web site. Perhaps the article was inaccurate and the painter merely based the color on the Pacer color. I don't know. I am going to do some more research.

I'll have to check the PPG site. I have an AutoColor near me and they don't have any way to look up motorcycle colors so they referred me to some on-line MC paint store (I can't remember the name) but they didn't go back far enough to look up the ELR. They did have the ZRX paint but I am leary of ordering paint on-line. I'd rather source it locally.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

ThatGPzGuy: Keep in mind when Greg recommends something that he is a pro painter and if he says PPG has a Kaw green, I would tend to rely on his expertise. I am an amateur painter and very bad at it plus am partially color blind in my old age so keep the PPG stuff in mind. I was just pointing out that the color you put forward didn't look close. I got Kaw green burned into my brain when my bro Roy-b-boy-b gave me a swingarm painted in that color and I had to strip it. It was incredibly hard to remove... painted the swingarm black. I am not keen for that green... I am a red kinda guy! Firecracker red off a GPz is my favorite color...

The PPG formula come comes from their commercial / fleet color charts, it is called Signal Green and was the offical factory Kawasaki color back in the late 1980's. It is just a solid green color.

I just thought i would share the way i came up with an accurate Kaw green.

I had some new handle bars that came off an early 80's MX bike, they were factory kaw bars. I took that down to a shop that builds and paints custom cars and bikes. They mixed some paint and sprayed it on some scrap piece until it matched. They did an absolute wonderful job. They gave me everything i needed to paint the body work in base coat/clearcoat for $230.00. I think it was Dupont paint which sprayed very nice!!

Anyway, hope this helps!
