Attaching sidecover badges
22 Feb 2006 05:12
I took these off to repaint the sidecovers. The little press on things that held them on by the pegs from the back got trashed in the process. Is some kind of double sided tape the answer or some other kind of adhesive? I'd like to be able to remove them again if I ever need to, but I don't want them falling off on the road either. Thanks.

two sided tape will work but the emblems wont be flush against the panel.
i put the emblems on with a spot of seal-all then wrapped copper wire around the posts on the inside and a spot of seal all to keep the wire in place.
ive got about500-600 miles on em so far and its held.

Rich:
When I bought my 1100 it had all emblems attached with double-sided tape (even the ones with screws = tank emblems...guess the PO was really concerned about losing them:blink: ). The tape works, but as has been pointed out, the emblems aren't flush. The tape is also a PITA to remove if its old. Try wireman's idea...I'm going a different route and I'll let you if it works.

What is "seal all", is that a brand name for something? I like the silicon idea, I just wanna make sure not to lose one since I know they'd be difficult to replace.

Those posts are awful small and mine are twisted. They also seem to be made of pretty soft/weak metal, maybe they were stronger on other models? It's a good idea if it could be made to work. I think I'm gonna go with the silicon idea for now and watch things carefully for a while.
Just for giggles, I ought to go to the Kawasaki dealer and see what those badges would cost and if they can still be ordered.

I found the push locks for lack of better words at the local Ace Hardware in their ( of all places ) hardware area..
Try Jeff @ Z1 Enterprises too...
But if your posts are crap.. depending on the amount of post left you might still be able to use the "push locks"
Replacement side badges are available, from Jeff or other sources and there's always Ebay:whistle:
But since we don't know what bike you are talking about ..
Good luck, Pat

If you find that link for repros. post it here somewhere, please. I figured replacements would be all but impossible to find.
Sorry for the lack on info on the bike, patmann. It's an '83 KZ1100LTD. Updated profile accordingly.
Reproduction emblems are available that look really nice. Sorry, no linky.
JMK.
