NEW TANK PAINT!!!new pics
10 Feb 2006 16:29
well i got a good bit of my paint done and started on my tank. this is only rattlecan for now because the "new paint scheme i have planned is kind of expensive (painting it myself it still comes out to 585.15)
this however is a far cry from what it was.
this is just so i feel better about riding it around while i get everything just perfect.
the aqua is duplicolor bright aqua metallic.
the green is blue to green chameleon.
i will post some daylight pics as soon as we get some sun.
the side covers are still waiting for clear but have the same concept.
the tailpiece is being replaced with one from a 78'440b
so i didnt do a whole lot to it.
starting out i had leaks in the tank and two dents one the size of a 50 cent piece and the other was the size of a dime.

this pic shows the "mirror" finish you can acheive even with rattlecan. the yellow airhose is about 6' away from my bike in this pic.
and yea i know my digicam sux. if you dont hold it perfectly still you get fuzzy pics.

That's pretty sharp.
What paint did you use.
Was the green a two part?

Very nice. I love the big metal flake look of the green, very old school that goes with our bikes.
(and Thank you, those pics were the kick in the butt I needed to get me out to the garage)

Looks great!
You said your using a Duplicolor paint. I'm also using Duplicolor, Metalcast though. I was looking at clear coats today, and the only ones they had were Duplicolor Truck, SUV etc clear as well as some others, but not Metalcast clears. The clears are an Acrylic clear, and I'm not sure the Metalcast is an Acrylic. Since they are both Duplicolor, should they be the same type of paint and compatable?

That looks great! That green is awesme with the blue...just right. Rob, My son used the duplicolor metalcast red. It's gas resistant...proven over time. The high heat clearcoat is supposed to be, too. It's the only one I'd put over metalcast. Make sure you wait the full recoat window and then some for the metalcast. ALmost getting the itch to paint again...looking for an excuse now. Wonder how mine would look in metalcast yellow with a blue basecoat? Really liking that green! My accidental experience with the metalcast is that it also resists lacquer after the recoat window. I would still use enamel if possible...I believe the high heat is a ceramic-based enamel, or comes in one.

Whit kind of clear coat did you use? Did you color sand and all that fun stuff as well, or did you just spray it? It looks really good.
