Windshield?

Windshield? was created by steell
Since I'm riding my bike pretty much full time now due to the price of gas, I really miss having a windshield like I have had on a few previous bikes. The problem is that most of the windshields I have looked at are made for stock bars, not the Superbike bars that I use, the part of the widshield that extends over the grips is generally to high, as in above the ends of my handlebars.

Has anyone else found a windshield that works well with Superbike bars?

I have been looking at the Slipstreamer SS-28, and it looks like it can be canted back enough to lower the portion that covers the grips, but since I don't have one I don't know for sure.

Anyone have one that they'd be willing to trade for a set of GPz1100 cams? I really can't bring myself to spend the $$ for a new one without being sure that it will work.

I've tried both Windjammer and Qicksilver fairings, but I just can't handle a frame mounted fairing, and I have no problem dealing with a bar mounted windshield, so that's what I'm going with again.

Have you looked the National Cycle, bar mounted shields? They seem to have a pretty good mounting system, lots of adjustment.

Vter Bob, neat site!
Although I am going to seriously consider one of the Raptor fairings shown on that site for my 750E project bike, they are a little to small to provide the wet weather protection I'm looking for.

Ron, I had a National Cycle Plexifairing on a Yamaha XV920RH years ago, it did a great job but it's a little large for my 750 twin.

JMK, your bars look like they sit to high for that fairing, and since my superbike bars only have 1 1/2" rise they should work pretty well with it.

I'm really leaning towards a SS-28, and unless something else pops up that's probably what I will get.

Thanks to all for your help.

I got a decent windshield for my bike from Ebay. Its a spitfire. Its a good size without being police bike or harley huge. Here's a pic

I had either the Spitfire or the Turbo windshield on a previous 750 twin, and it is a decent windshield, it just isn't wide enough to offer any protection for my hands.

Some times I'm lucky enough to make 150-200 mile parts runs on my bike, while getting paid my normal hourly rate plus gas, and a windshield with hand protection would really be nice when I get caught in a thunderstorm.

Beesting, how stable is that windshield. I've been looking at it on a couple of sites because I like the smaller size but from what I can tell it only has 2 mount points. Also how easy is it to remove, time and effort wise.

I haven't ventured onto the freeway yet so as far as alot of wind resistance - I dont know. As you mentioned there are only two mount points besides where the rubber trim touches the top of the headlight bezel.

There are 4 adjustment points, two at each mount, which are a little tricky until you get it on and adjusted properly, but after that I think it's alright. I'll give some more feedback after I get some more miles behind me.

For a while I had been looking at some of the Vetter Windjammers listed on Ebay. There are some very good prices on Ebay for used Vetters and from what I can tell they are (for the most part) universal applications as long as you get the proper mounting hardware.
