Not really any need to find the proper Vetter mounting hardware for your bike, most will work with minor modifications. I removed a Vetter Deluxe Touring Package from a 82 KZ750 twin and mounted it on a 82 KZ1000 CSR, and I also used a Gold Wing Vetter fairing mount on a KZ650.

None of the above were for me, I just don't like the frame mounted fairings.

I have had a Spitfire on one of my bikes for 15 years. It is just fine but with no hand protection, it gets cold in the winter. The number 2 bike, also a 1100D, has a National Cycle shield. I like it. The third bike, 1100A2 has the full Kaw/Vetter set up. It is nice but you really feel the engine heat when it is 100 degrees out. When the leg guards are installed, it is like having a heater on your bike in the winter. My work partner just got a National Cycle for his new Triumph. He likes it.......I would rather not have a windscreen but you will get beat up by gravel and bugs without it in the city.....chris3

I don't really ride in the cold so the only benefit I would gain from the hand protection would be when I get caught in the rain. Most of my riding (hours wise) is around town at speeds less than 40 where I don't want a shield. Most of my mileage comes from weekend rides/trips that I go on with friends and some longer night rides. I like the lower temp at night but the bugs around here are something else. I've had times where I started with a perfectly clean visor and after 2 miles or less, had to pull over and clean it off to see the road clearly. Thats not an exaggeration, rice fields are natures bug factories. I only want a shield for the weekends and night riding so I'd like to find one that installs/removes easily and only want it big enough to help with the bug situation. My highway riding speeds vary from 55-90 so I want one that has secure mounting. If anyone knows of a model/style that might fit my needs I'd appreciate a link or mfg/model info.

I got a decent windshield for my bike from Ebay. Its a spitfire. Its a good size without being police bike or harley huge. Here's a pic

This is like the, national cycle shield I have. Does pretty good on the hiway, @ speed. Haven't had any problems w/the mounts.

You could always go the DIY route... total cost? $1.48 for the black strip on the outside of the windshield. It is a door edge guard for car doors. :D I got the polycarbonate plastic for free, and the heat gun to form it borrowed from work.

It is just a small little windshield to keep wind out of my face so I can tuck down at highway speed.

Thanks for your efforts JMK, looks like I may have to go with a Spitfire or similar shield :(

But thoughts of selling my twins and my metal working machinery and buying a ZR7S have crossed my mind. Get a newer bike and a windshield stock :)

I finally got around to taking pictures of the Memphis Shades Alley Cat I just installed. No hand protection but it works well on the freeway up to 75 or 80 before the buffeting gets annoying. I couldn't get Memphis Shades or any dealers to give me enough information about their brackets so I I made these out of 1/8" 3003 aluminum.
