kz650 wheel options. was created by PMcD
I have a 1978 kz650 B2 model and was wondering if there are any mag or nonspoke wheels that are pretty much a direct fit, with as few modifications as possible. I currently have spoke wheels and a single disk in front, and a drum in rear.

I have used the search system, but I didn't see a lot about direct swaps.

Any information is helpful and appreciated. Thanks.

You can use 650 mags. However, the rear wheel will probably be a disc brake and you will need the whole swing arm to make it useable. That part is no big deal, but you will have to mount the rear master cyclinder to the frame somehow.
The C models have a mounting bracket for it, but the B models don't since the have a drum brake.

On the rear if you want to maintain the drum brake and not mess with converting to disc you have a couple of options. If you want to maintain the 18" wheel size you need to get a mag from either an 80 650-F1 or you can use a rear mag from a 550 Std. if you can live with a 16" wheel you can use the rear mag from either an 80 650 LTD or you can use one off a 550 LTD. These are all bolt on swaps with no mods required. For the front wheel do like Mario suggested and use a wheel from a 650 C or a 650 D or F I also believe you can use a front wheel from a 1000 LTD (1977-80) and the front mag from an 80 750 twin LTD will work as well.

Now, if I wanted to change the swingarm along with the rear wheel what would be good to use I know that gs1100s are typical but you need to do a handful of mods as well as sleeving.

But what about a gpz750 swingarm? Is that fairly similar?

I have the same question about the front end, what is a more modern front end, and will all of them have to be sleeved?

I am 15 so I am shying away from a substantial amount of one off custom work, but I have some knowledge and am good at creatively making and doing things.

Thanks for putting up with my questions and I appreciate your help.

79 KZ650 SR with 83 GPz750 wheels and suspension front and rear, with GPz750 aluminum swing arm modded for dual shocks. We had the GPz stuff, so we figured "why not?" :)

Have to drill out the frame for the 17mm GPz750 swing arm pivot bolt, and use conversion bearings from All Balls for the fork stem.

That's a 150/18 rear tire on a 3.00" wide rim on there, it's entirely to wide for the rim and will be replaced with a 140.

If you want to convert to cast (mag) wheels, I have all the stuff we took off the 650 in the above pic. Shipping would be rather expensive though :woohoo:
