Multiple coats of clear.
Look forward to seeing what it looks like after you're complete.

Under clear is fine. But be carefull if you intend on wet sanding and buffing the clearcoat. The area around the striping will be raised slightly and you can sand right through the clearcoat in this area very easily.I try to stay away from those areas when wet sanding the clear.Good Luck!!

G'day Grace1,
My bike's pin stripes were all under the clear coat and certainly you can clear over new stripes or decals BUT you have a time window based upon your paint maker's stipulations.
If you lay-down the base coat you will only have so many hours (typically) before you MUST lay-down the clear coat OR you'll have to wait up to a week before you can and then you'll probably have to scuff the paint which is not good if you're talkin' about metallics, pearls et cetera...

After the basecoat a couple light coats of inner coat clear should be next.......never put the decals directly on the base coat just in case you make a mistake and have to peel them off. Your artwork or in your case decals can be appled easily on the inner coat clear, once your happy with the layout then shoot a few coats of clear over the entire thing.
