fenderless tail mod

Just thought I'd post a couple of pictures of the tail mod I did last weekend.

Used an earlier tail than the stock '76 because I prefer the rounder tail light rather than the squarer one that came on the 76.

Sorry, here's the other side.

How do you post more than one picture in a single post?

Looks great! Can you give us a shot from underneath? And maybe some specific steps or even a sketch?

Thanks!

Thanks. I'll try to get some better shots tonight.

Made the mod out of s/s (16ga?). bent it all up at a friend's sheetmetal shop and welded the corners (overkill). End result was a kind of 5 sided cube (open at the bottom), with a very slight angle to the face that the light attaches to. Then a second plate of s/s with a bend across the middle (horizontal) which is sandwiched in place between the first "box" and the light, when the light is attached. Kinda winged it as I went along.

Don't know how to draw on the computer so I'll sketch it out and scan it.

Nice Job!

I do not have access to a sheet metal shop so I went to lowes and bought a strip of aluminum that was about 3/8" thick. I bent it in my garage with vice accordingly and was able to easily fabricate my own bracket. Not as sturdy as welded steel, but I think it will get the job done.

CGray34, nice job, very clean look. Which light did you use?

The next 6 posts will be additional photos...

You might note I did som fairly heavy grinding on the edges to smooth and to lessen the heavy profile of the sides of the "box" so it would be hidden under the tail.
