I just have a quick question about styles of handlebars. My KZ750 LTD currently has the higher bars with a longer pullback (I don't know all the names of the styles), but I want to replace them with something that has less pullback. I have a friend with a BMW whose bars I really liked. He said that BMW calls them "S Bars". Is that a standard name, or is there something else out there?

Many of us have swapped out the stock mini-apehangers for the superbike bars. I like them a lot on my daily rider KZ750H LTD.

Petaluma and Truckee, CA -- member since Jan. 23, 2003;
PREVIOUS KZs: 1980 KZ750H with 108,000 miles; 1980 KZ750E with 28,000 miles; and KZ750H street/cafe project, all sold a few years back.

This is what I do for fun, not for work. It is art, with a little engineering thrown in.

Well, on my bikes, so far I've had stock (of course), Euro-style (never again), Daytona-style (nice compromise between superbike and stock), and Superbike. I like everything about the superbike, from the perfect pull-back to the perfect height, to the perfect width. Drag bars are slightly less pullback and no rise. I won't mess with perfection.

What don't you like about the European style bars? That's actually what I just ordered for mine as I don't like the large pullback on the bars that are currently on mine.

If I recall, the Euro bars are very similar to the superbike bars. My guess is there is very little reason to prefer on over the other. However, with all bars, the real test is how you feel over a long ride.

They end up being quite different from the superbike bars. The euro bars have a different set of angles. It's like they took superbike bars and twisted them around a bit. They are more bent-back and bent-down than the superbike, which are much more straight out. I just ended up having wrist discomfort after using the euro bars.

Hmmm, that's exactly why I wanted to change out the bars I currently have with the 10 inch pullback. My wrists start to bother me after a short ride. I'm going to give the Euro bars a shot and go from there. I have a bunch of things I'd like to do with my bike, but can only take things one step at a time!

I believe I have the euro bars on my KZ1000M1 CSR, and haven't found them terribly comfortable. I even cut them back 1.5 inches each side, but still not happy. It seems my wrists and arms fatigue rather quickly. My son's 1981 GS650 has the factory "ape hanger" bars, which are similar to the Kawasaki ones, and I definitely hate them.

I am intrigued by the comments on superbike bars. Where would I look for some? I like narrow and lower bars, and I'm assuming those characteristics apply? Appreciate any feedback on this.
