i just started this a couple of hours ago.
i bought a craftsman sanding kit for $12.00
and a buffing kit $12.00 from sears.
i still havnt found my detail rotary bits but this is what i have so far.
the picture detail is fuzzy but the pics with no flash show the shine better.

Nice work! Did you take some shots with the flash? I'd like to see some...

Even though the pic is a little fuzzy, I can still see a really big difference in the covers.
Great job! :)

So lets see, I remove and package up my bikes engine covers, ship them to you with $30 and a pre-paid return shipping label, then just sit back and await an early Christmas package....

Looks great.

A little hijack here, but last week I was working at Home Depot and we had to do demos with Dremel tools, so I brought a nasty looking cam cover in and marked down "for demo use" some of the wire brushes to get started on making it shine.

If you can get more details I can get Home Depot to pay for my polishing   :woohoo:

Are you kidding? Writeup! Writeup!

I tried the "elbow grease" method, but quickly found that I don't have the 800 hours it would take me to get the whole engine to a mirror finish by manual wetsanding...

And cheap is good. I'm poor here!

i will post a step by step of the fork with pics once i get the left side finished and start the right.

there is still a fair ammount of "elbow grease" due to the fact i havnt found any abbrasives in rotary form higher then 120.

it needs to be hit with 400 -600 before buffer.

on another note i found that hitting the headers with three different pads and compounds (black emery, brown tripoli, and white rouge in that order) removes light blueing and tarnish. will write up a seperate how to on this if needed.

you can see the header in the picture^^^^^

mine turned out very nice almost factory chrome minus some minor scratches.
