So my tank is rusted on my bike and it's causing some problems...as you can guess...I was going to try my hand at the Kreem cleaning and resealing kit but then my brother offered to buy me a new tank for christmas...WOW...nice, huh?
My question is, what are any and all tanks that will fit my 78 police bike? The one on there isn't orignal, but it fits....it's about 3 gallon and if possible I'd like to go a little bigger, but it isn't necessary.

Don't waste your time on Kreem or Pour-15 unless your tank is leaking. Check out my article on Rusty Tanks in the Articles section.

I coated my tank with Kreem about 15 years ago and never had a issue with it. What should I look for?

Hey Baldy,
Those sealers are generally fine if installed correctly. It's just that they're usually unecessary! I have a 74 W3 that had rust in the tank, pretty heavy rust at that. I cleaned it several times before I realized that the reason I wasn't getting the rust off was because the rust was covered by some sort of clear epoxy. It turned out that the PO had had the tank sealed and then put the bike up for another year in his New Orleans garage. I guess the coverage on the epoxy coating was incomplete and the bare portions of the tank rusted again.

Now here's a basic truth of life that's being totally ignored. My gas tank told me that New Orleans was the pits for motorcycles and Katrina told us that it was as bad for humans and still some of these fools want back in. Let em have it, Just don't send me the bill.

A much better plan is to keep the tank full through the winter and to drain tanks that are really going to be laid up for extended times.

I just read a thread recently - can't remember is it was this forum - where a guy welded the bottom of one tank that fit his bike to the top of another tank that was much more roomy. I think he got about 5 gallons with that. It was a yellow police bike, by the way.

As for what tanks fit, the only people who will know are police bike owners with other bikes lying around that can swap tanks for you - I mean it's not a well-known thing, which is probably why nobody seems to know the answer....
