Talkin' Fenders (USD Fork Conversion Edition)

As some of you might know, I have been working on doing a USD fork conversion on my '90 Zephyr 550. I will spare you all the details here, but things are going well, and I've turned my attention to the front fender. I have found two fenders that I think will work great for the project, both are made by Tyga Performance. The only thing is, I can't decide which one I want to get!

Both fenders are designed for the ZXR250 which works for me because that bike has the same size front wheel and tire as my bike (I'm keeping the stock wheel in the conversion), and is designed for upside down forks. The two styles are a stock/original style ZXR250, and the other one is a "GP Ninja" style. Here's some photos:

Stock/original style ( tyga-performance.com/product_info.php?products_id=463 ):

"GP Ninja" style ( tyga-performance.com/product_info.php?products_id=1524 ):

I tried to attach a poll to this post so you guys can vote. And here's a picture of the bike it's going on.

A breeze from the west.

My 2 cents - i think those chunky fenders typically only look good on fully faired bikes. On a UJM they put too much visual mass on the front wheel without anything to balance it out.  Why not come up with some custom mounts to reuse your OEM fender since you are using the OEM wheel? You can do some really slick mounts with some 1/4" bar/tube and some bushings. Either that or you need a 3/4 fairing.

not my bike but you get the idea.

+1, it's your bike and you need to decide but I agree with Doc. IMHO they full fenders look "wrong" on a naked bike

I understand what you guys are saying, but I want a fender that has guards in front of the fork lower stanchions to protect them from road debris. I think probably all forks should have guards, but being down low seems like a critical thing on UsD forks.

I am considering making custom brackets with guards that do the job of holding my stock fender on. But these ZXR250 fenders are a quicker solution to getting the bike up and running again when it’s time to do the swap. Which isn’t to say that I’m just taking the easy way out, I mean I will still keep trying to fit the stock fender even after I get the Tyga fender. But I figured I could at least try out the Tyga fender to see what it looks like. Maybe even if it needs to be modded a little to look less like a sport bike fender. I was planning on painting it black.

Some flat track style carbon guards for sliders and racecraft style guard as above gets my vote. i am going to try fab  a real slim /minimal carbon guard i reckon.

I made a press fit aluminum cover sleve for a friends Harley Dyna FXDWG with a KTM 640 Duke WP USD fork conversion i did last year..
The outer fork tube have a teflon tape slider in case of surface contact, works perfect. The sleeves have water drain holes on bottom site.

+1 on adapting your stock fender, looks right on a naked bike. IMO
