04 636 swingarm on 86 Police
01 Mar 2021 09:22
Hey all, I came across a 04 636 swing arm, I mocked it up just to see what all I would need to do, I know I got to find a local machine shop to fix pivot bushing I have an idea of what to tell them from pics I’ve found here, but I ain’t sure on my back brake caliper will be cause the shock lugs need to be there ( didn’t want the mono shock). My back master cylinder isn’t gonna work either, need some direction from more experience ppl. I’ll try and put pics in.

If you're planning on installing rearsets, your rear master will be mounted there - might take some clever mounting to make even that fit though, the 1000P frame is strange. You may also be able to have a channel cut/welded into the swingarm but that may be a bit thin, based on your photos.
As for the caliper, it shouldn't be too hard to make a bracket to relocate it to the bottom of the swingarm.

Yea I’ve seen this swingarm on this forum being used with the brake caliper bracket being modified and shock lugs being welded on but I can’t remember where I seen it or how old it was, just haven’t seen it on a police frame so the rear brake master and linkage would have to relocate so I could ( hopefully) keep the floorboards .

You may have been thinking on mine. I abandoned the project due to it being 1/8" off from being flat. I wound up going with a 98 KZP swing arm being it's thicker material and 1 1/2" longer. Any longer than that the bike would handle like a log. Now the bike is steady at a ton and looks stock. WARNING; change one thing you'll have to change others as well.

What u mean bout 1/8 from flat, the main reason I wanted to swap was for a bigger tire, don’t think there’s much room left on the original rim before it distorts the tire or hit something. I think the 86 and 98 are the same ( but not sure.

It was welded tweaked 1/8" so I didn't use it. Had to extend my fender and get longer shocks for it all to work. What you want to is doable but not plug and play.

Yea I knew I was gonna have to fab some stuff, my biggest problem right now is finding anyone local to machine the pivot bearings . Plenty of engine builders around but none I’ve talk to could turn down bar stock ☹️

I made my own and there's a member here that can make you a pair of "Top hats" so your pivot bolt can be used. It's all in my thread. What did the arm come off of?

The arm is off a 2004 Kawasaki 636 Ninja, that would be a big help if some one could help me out that’s already made these.

I did PM 531Blackbanshee . I saw his pics of the top hat and the rear brake mount he modified, pretty sure that’s what I’ll need to have built.

Plus Les, at "PDM" an advertiser here member.
Are the police frames different? Swingarm pivot size? From Z1 / KZ's? I had one on a KZ for a while till it sold quick when an old city house I used for a warehouse garage sold in middle of winter about 9-10 yrs. ago. It was a nice plan for a conversion?
