Chain master link

Is it possible to buy a chain that is complete ? It seems that they all need to be put together.

Sorry but I don't know where to buy one. You could take the chain to a motorcycle shop in your area and pay them to put it together for you. Realize that you will have to remove the swingarm to install it.

I will replace the shocks too and the swingarm could probably use servicing.
Are those clip master links a
“weak link”. ? I am afraid of them.

Clip type are fine, I have put them on all my bikes and never had a problem.

Riveted master links are as strong as the rest of the chain. I use a D.I.D. Chain breaking / riveting tool. The translated instructions are not as clear as they could be, but once I figured it out, the tool proved easy to use and has given excellent results.

I purchased a new replacement chain and it came with a Rivet type master link. I only had part of the original link left and needed a new Clip type Master link. I found a 3 pack of them at TSC or Tractor Supply for less than $6. It fit and works fine. Hope this helps

To be on the safe side, i would secure clip of the master link.

I prefer a rivet master link but have to admit, the safety wired link clip looks pretty secure.

You can get a cheap chain tool from Cycle Gear or Amazon. They look beefy but the C clamp is made from cheese steel. Before using the tool to push out a chain pin you have to grind off the head of the pin to the greatest extent possible.

Modern rivet type master links typically have a hollow pin so the chain tool just has to flare out the end. Doing this is fairly easy and the tool doesn't undergo too much stress.

The chain I installed on my KZ1000 this summer came with the rivet-on master link with the hollow pins that Nessism described. I used a sharpened bit in my air chisel with a 2 lb. sledge hammer behind it as an anvil to mushroom the pins, it worked pretty well.

Stay away from cheap chinese tools. I love to buy quality tools.
