This might be redundant, I apologize if it is. I'm trying to get information on the KZ1000P swingarm.

My question is for the super smart guys:

1) Is it the same size as the standard KZ1000 XXX models? IE does it bolt up in the frame?

2) It appears to be beefier from the photos with additional bracing, but are the round tube's larger or thicker?

3) Has any body ever tried using one on a race bike?

Thanks

As the P series uses the same pivot bolt and bearings as the J/KM series, I reckon the swingarm should bolt in just fine. There are different swingarm part numbers for the police bikes. The C series has a different number than the P1 and it has a different number from the rest of the P series (P2 and newer). I suspect they are minor differences, but do not know for sure. If the P arms are braced in some way, they will also be heavier, which may not be great for racing. If you want stronger and lighter, a Suzuki GS 1000/1100 aluminum arm would be a better choice. You will need a small spacer on each side and will need to use Shocks for a GS. There are also aftermarket aluminum arms, but they can get pretty pricy. If strength and weight are your priorities, a custom arm from one of the members here would be the best combination of strength, weight, coolness and price.

Update: I pulled the trigger and spent $24.00 on a 1999 KZ1000P swing arm which arrived last night. It is definitely a beefed up version of the swing arm, more bracing and thicker tubing by about 1.5mm. The webbing looks thicker too, and extends further down the swing arm, from what I can tell. I will know more when I pull the old one off. The biggest difference is the additional bracing on the pivot tube. My guess is this was added to handle the additional weight added to the bikes for all of the radios and other equipment put on the police bikes. Pretty cheap and easy upgrade.

Would you mind weighing it and a civilian swing arm to satisfy the curious folk (me) around here?

For the best bang for your buck There are no swingarm swaps as easy and cheap than the GS1100E aluminum one. It's light weight very stout and easy to find.

Can they handle a 4 inch Rim? I have a GSXR1100 4.00x18 rear rim with a 150 tire.

A 150 will fit as long as the wheel is not all the way forward
