As the title says, I am looking at replacing the OEM ball bearings in my KZ-1000 with an All Balls #22-1014 conversion kit. I haven't started this project yet but I would like to have all my bases covered beforehand. I searched on the forum and found all sorts of steering head bearing information, but nothing that answered my question which is, does the stock steering stem cap get re-installed on top of the new tapered upper roller bearing? This may seem like a overly simple question, but I think the sole purpose of the steering stem cap is to help put force on the OEM top race and thereby contain the ball bearings. If there are no individual ball bearings to contain is the stem cap needed? I can only assume if the stem cap is indeed used after installing the tapered bearing it is to act as a spacer correct? Thanks for any help or information on this.

All balls can create a fork conversion chart for your 1977 KZ 1000 steering head bearing.
All listed forks will fit with the top and bottom bearings listed.
The stock steering stem cap ID maybe need to be modify if the new stearing stem OD is bigger.
Some fork conversion need a steering stem swap too.

I don't think he wants to change forks, just convert from ball bearings to roller bearings in the stock setup.
