750B upgrade to ZG1000 calipers, what rotors?

Hello KZRiders,

I recently was able to pick up a set of 1986 zg1000 calipers for a song and after mocking up the fit with some KZ650 rotors I had lying around I realize I need to go rotor shopping. The rotor diameter is too small. I have seen other threads recommending KZ1000 rotors with GPZ750 calipers, which look similar to the ZG1000 grabbers that I already have. Just looking for some confirmation, are the KZ1000 rotors going to be the ticket? Thanks as always.

So , a little bit of sizing research I have been able to do may give you guys an easier time answering my question.

KZ750 Stock Rotor Diameter - 245mm
KZ650 Stock Rotor Diameter - 245mm
ZG1000 Stock Rotor Diameter - 272mm
KZ1000 Stock Rotor Diameter - 296mm

Obviously, this needs to be right on the money when it comes to sizing. I would say the KZ650 rotors that are mocked up are about halfway up the pad surface. I need the 4 bolt pattern I would be able to get from the KZ1000 rotors but I want to confirm that the diameter wouldn't be too large. Thanks!

Different model KZ650 bikes had rotors with different diameter and thicknesses. The KZ650B and E models had front rotors with a swept area of 250mm and a thickness of 6.9-7.1mm. The KZ650C, D, and F models had front rotors with a swept area of 231mm and a thickness of 4.9-5.1mm. Ed

Thanks for the insight Ed. I believe these are the thinner rotors but I will have to put a tape on them when I can get back to the workshop. I have made peace with not being able to use those rotors though. Any thoughts on the sizing I should be looking for to use on the 750B with the ZG1000 calipers?
