Replacement belt for kz440
30 Aug 2017 21:12
Has anyone had luck replacing their drive belt for their kz? I have an '82 kz440 ltd. I understand the belt is discontinued from the manufacturer. I've searched online and have found some leads for possible replacements, but they have also been vague about specs. This is the most affordable belt I have found, but it's hard to bite the bullet when there are not dimensions listed.

By marypsi: .... it's hard to bite the bullet when there are not dimensions listed.
From a quick check there seems to be two different sized belts for the 440s --- 125T or 129T.
So count the number of teeth on your old belt. Also, count the teeth on the pulleys & compare them to the diagrams.
59011-1001 = 125T
59011-1009 = 129T
ps: you can do a chain drive conversion. It's supposed to be a direct swap. but I don't know if you need to swap chain guards.

That cmsnl at least lists the tooth-count! But much more expensive than Partzilla. I'm wondering since they are both listed as 59011-1009, if I can go ahead then and feel confident about ordering from Partzilla. Fingers crossed!

Thank you!! This is the most helpful information I've come across so far in regard to the kz440's belt (even when checking different manuals for specs, and on kz400.com, etc). I'm pretty sure my old belt was 129T. I will double check this, but it is extremely helpful to know about the pulleys too. Thank you again!

Counting 100+ teeth could get maddening, so I would make a series of marks using testors model kit paint or nail polish.

Measure a section of, say, 20 teeth, and then measure the belt as a whole. Be sure to include the gap next to the 20th tooth.
Divide (the length of the belt) by (the length of 20 teeth).
Multiply that number by 20 to determine how many teeth are on your belt. It won't be 100% precise but should allow you to determine whether you have 125 or 129 teeth.
Or just make marks while counting like martin_csr suggested. That's probably faster.

Call Partzilla to verify that I s in stock. They have a bad habit if advertising parts that are not in stock.

Partzilla has a photo of the 125T belt, so hopefully they have that one.
There isn't a photo of the 129T, so it's probably NLA. CMSL has a pic of it, though, so maybe it's available there. Because of the price, though, I'd do the chain conversion if yours is the larger size.

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationThere are a buziollion sizes of toothed drive belts on the market these days. If you can get the dimensions of the original belt , you may be able to fin a good fit. I think the crucial measurementnt is pitch and length. I bet you could fudge a little on the width.
Here is an example.
