New old guy with an old bike.

I recently picked up a zx750A2 gpz for a hundred bucks. It needed a wiring harness, and the shift rod had broken it a chunk from the aluminum casing. With those tHings addressed I'm on to chain and sprockets and saw where a 530 pitch can be put on instead of the 630. I've found a kit online that fits a zx750e turbo but it says it doesn't fit my a2 model. However, if I look at the parts pages online, they are the identical part numbers for the shaft.

Does anyone know a reason why it wouldn't bolt up with the exciting of the different gearing that the two models have. 630 chains are getting hard to find.

I also just wanted to say kudos for the great informative site. When I get this one done I'll decide if I will do my 76 kz900, the 78 1000ltd out the 78 kz650. , What a great problem to have.

Welcome. I have no problems getting 630 chains and sprockets. I love mine. Second year and only two adjustments.

I run a KZ650 530 front sprocket on my ZX750A1 motor any of the sprocket company's should have a rear 530 to fit the ZX750 wheel.

i had ordered a 630 chain and sprockets, in fact they came today so tomorrow they go on. Thanks for the input guys. You GPZ must run pretty good with the 810 kit and other mods. It is a pretty fast bike stock.

Okay, so the 100 dollar geep is really around $350 excluding tax, fuel and registration but it's smoothed out much and in fact is a really enjoyable, stable platform. My last bike was a from some German manufacturer who's name escapes me. It was a R100S or something like that. I racked up 72000 on that bike in about five years and sold it because I was starting a family and uh, felt the need to stay alive for a while to get this new venture off to a good start.

Twenty-five years passes fast, kids are grown, and ex-bikes become ex-wives and whereas I don't need another wife, this bike just happened along at the right time.

So, the big question is this; I used to run Metzeler Perfects me77 on the Beemer. Since I've been 25 years out of the game and this is a sport tourer, what do you recommend? I'm now sixty, I ain't going to go wheel to wheel with these new bikes and the youngsters that ride them. I just want a good tire that enhances the inherent attributes of the bike given it's age and the let the good times roll.

Thanks, haven't been here long but I trust you all to give your honest and biased opinions. I don't trust many of the reviews from online sites. That looks like a great tire and it has a five star review.

Do you personally run those, SW?

Been running them since 13. If you've seen my clips I burn through rear tires in 5000 miles. Would last much longer if I didn't have a lead wrist.:woohoo:

A buddy has Shinkos on his old honda 500 and likes them
I've had mostly Bridgestone Spitfires on my 1980 KZ 750 E1 over the past 14 years and like them. Not the cheapest tire and not the most expensive. A decent tire.
Like you I'm old enough to ride like someone who realises they are no longer immortal.

Edit: I put a Bridgestone Battlax of the rear this season when I couldnt find a Spitfire to fit. Think, I'd prefer the Spitfire.

I'm on my second set of Pirelli Sport Demons. I've been using the Pirellis for the past 8 years and they really work well on my bike. I've owned my 1977 KZ650-C1 since April, 1977 and rode a BSA for 11 years prior to buying the KZ650, so I'm basing my opinion on a fair amount of experience. Metzeler and Pirelli are sister companies; I use Metzeler tubes as recommended by Pirelli. Ed

Thankfully, the tires that came with the bike have tread and aren't terrible. But I want to upgrade just the same. Some uneven wear on the front, balance induced maybe? Are Dyna beads the way to go now?

I bought my 1978 KZ 650 C2 brandy new myself although it's in pieces in the barn and hasn't been started in thirty years. It wouldn't surprise me if that motor started right up.

Oh, I should mention that I'm in Vermont and the roads are a bit twisty with a lot of up and downs. Great place to ride especially being the second least populous state in the union. I don't mind spending a little on the tires but also realize that you can pay for the name and not necessarily get a better tire.

Leaves are starting to change here and I wish they would stop it but since they aren't going to, I'll post some pics soon.
