Tire wrong rotation direction was created by gordone
Hi,
What Impact does wrong rotation direction on the front wheel has under wet condition?
The previous owner has set the rotation wrong for some strange reason, and I was thinking don`t doing something with it before winter,
but I`m not a experience driver and was wondering impact it would have for me.... see attached photo.

Sipes and Slots
Here's my understanding, which might be wrong ---
Some tires are designed for using on either front and/or rear. Such tires may have rotational arrow instructions in one direction for using on the front and in the opposite direction when using on the rear. In such case, the tread design is presumably appropriate in either direction.
I believe, but am not positive, that when manufactured, the area where the tread connects is an overlapping area that best resists separation from acceleration force in one direction (on the rear) and best resists separation from braking force in the other direction (on the front). This refers to pressure applied to the tread connection area by the road surface during acceleration or braking.
If the tire at hand is intended for a different rotation on the front than is currently fitted, I would have the tire remounted to comply with the prescribed direction. Because the "V" slots are likely designed to promote traction in wet condition by channeling water away from the tire when rotating as prescribed by the manufacturer.
Good Fortune!

Thank you for the information, I look into these and set of the time to turn the wheel, It`s look like I can just turn the whole wheel and not the tire, the brake plat is the same on both sides.

No offense intended, but It sounds like you're trying to avoid doing the right thing - remove the tire and mount it correctly. If you try to turn the whole assembly around you will run into other problems that are more difficult to deal with - for example, the speedometer gear drive is on the left side of the wheel. Ed

you know the answer here....
I would give the whole bike a very careful look over, anyone dumb enough either to pay someone to do that, or do it themselves is a hazard.
Besides you can be sure the last muppet who did that wouldn't have bothered to balance the wheel.

If the tire is over a year old, I'd replace it and balance the new one. Tyrell is right, check everything else.

You can check the date code on the tire, but running it backwards may have compromised it, so as suggested by SWest, replacing it seems like the thing to do. Motorcycle riding is already a risky endeavor, so why add to the risk? Maybe not where you live, but a visit to the hospital is rather expensive here in the USA, so it's a lot cheaper to just go ahead & replace the tire. or both.

i see your point all, I will look into it, I have only driven when the road is dry until now so it has not been a problem, but planning to take a longer driver these summer.
So you all change tire each season?

I get 12,000 miles on the front so it's good for two years.

No, but it depends upon the tire & mileage. Usual reasons for replacing a tire: worn tread. tire damaged. tire old.
In your case the tire might have been damaged by running it backwards but any damage is probably impossible to see.
I wouldn't want a tire to fail at speed, especially when doing a high speed run. However, it may be that the tire is fine, but there's no way to know for sure.

I'd be curious to know what the tire manufacturer has to say about reinstalling the tire correctly. They'll probably recommend replacing it to avoid liability, but that's just a guess.
