Front End Swap

26 Jun 2017 22:43

Just a question for those that have swapped out the front ends on their bikes. I have 1997 Gsxr1100 Front end that I want to put onto my bike (77 KZ1000). I ordered a steering stem bearing for it through All Balls Bearings using their website to find out which ones to get (based on the bikes). I was told that I would have to get a new steering stem machined so that I would be able to use the gsxr front end. Im not sure why but I'm guessing its because the gsxr stem isn't long enough? When I put the front end on, it seems to be long enough and seems to tighten down fine. Any help would be great. Thanks.

You have to use (press in) your KZ1000 stem in the lower fork triple of the GXR1100.

I think Wiers used a GSXR front end on his build. Check the search engine. Also Kawaholic might have had one on his Phoenix fighter(rip).

This manual and hours of reading here in this great forum helps me a lot on my project bike fork swap.
I used a ZX9-R fork with 780 mm length

the most common thing to do is swap the kz stem into the gixxer triples.
then you use neck bearings for your year of kz and the front end bolts right on.
heres a link

that shows the process.
