1985 GPz 550 handle bar removal?

Like the title says I have a 1985 GPz 550 and want to swap out the stock bars for a set of clip ons and run them a bit lower on the fork. I was looking at these buckhorn style bars and I am not sure how they come off. Am I supposed to remove the cap that sits on the very top of the fork tube? Or is there another way to remove them? Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Buckhorn handlebars on an 85 ZX550 & you say they're stock? maybe provide a photo.

Agree!!! I gotta see a picture of a GpZ550 with buckhorn bars. I'm betting either it is not a GpZ550 OR they are not buckhorn bars since I can't image how a person would mount those bars on a GpZ550. The images below explain. Ed

I found a set of older Tele-fix Clip-Ons that mount in the same location as the stock ZX550 Bars, but are very adjustable to low or high, and in and out. Running them on my daily commuter 1985 GPz550 for years, and love them. They show up on eBay from time to time.

Well what do you know, here is another set of what I have:

If those forks for the 1100, are 35mm just like that on the ZX550, then you are golden.
