Fairing Install ?
15 May 2017 08:01
Has anyone installed one of these on the KZ1000 ?
I ordered a Maier Sport Fairing but wouldn't fit. One thing is that the short stalk front turn signals I have mounted on my 77' KZ1000A thru the headlight ears doesn't clear the side cut-outs of the Maier fairing. The "Thruxton" style fairing has an 8" diameter headlight hole and the mounting point thats mount to the headlight ears is 9".

This one from "China" is less expensive made of ABS plastic and has clearance slots at the botton of the fairing to gain access to the headlight ring.
I think the Chinese one would be a better fit. What do you guys think ???

From my days in CCS and replacing fairings when I was a bit too, ahem, "judicious" with the throttle, I always had a good experience with the Maier items so I'm surprised by the issue. Granted, my bike was a Suzuki GS500, but I would imagine the fit and finish is pretty much consistent.
The only chinese made plastic I ever used was a replacement lower pan for the track. I don't remember the name but it fit well and was on the bike when I sold it 10 years ago. I had no complaints. I know there are lots of opinions about Chinese made items here on the board so....

I appreciate you responding to my Post. I would love to install the Maier Sport Fairing but with the short stalk mini turn signals that I have installed thru the headlight ears, they're too "short" ( 2 3/4" from mounting surface to outside of signal ). The Maier fairing measures 12" across at the cut-outs. That 12" wide cut-out would put that right in the middle of my turn signal lens.
Even threading a 1/2" nut on the mounting stem of the signal to the end which buts up to the headlight ear only gives me very little threads to capture. End up using a narrow jam nut to mount. That moved the signal out a 1/2" but still sits inside the cut-out of the fairing. So that's where I am at now.
Anybody else care to respond with any other ideas besides changing out my signal to a "longer" one.

The one you describe in the original post is too big. Return it and get the one in the link.

I'm assuming you mean the link from caferacerz.com ? Unable to get on their site, thus unable to see what they advertise ?

The model you have the mounting surfaces where the directionals fasten it are 9" apart. The smaller model has 8" mounting surface width, therefore your directionals will go through the fairing and original headlamp bucket to secure it.
Can't help you with the computer issue, but that's the problem with your screen.
