Dunlop K81 Tires on a Z1?
24 Apr 2017 09:23
Does anybody have any experience with the recent Dunlop K81s? I know they redesigned them at some point, so they're better than the 80's version.
Looking to put a set on my Z1 900, but don't see much info on here about them. I like the older looks and the white letters of the K81s. This will be just used for occasional rides, and won't see rain or be beat on much (I have my ZRX for that).

Back in the day they were the tires to have. The front worked well but the rear went away quickly. I ran a Chin Shin on the back due to it's low cost. I ran a K181 until I parked the bike in 98. I now run Shinlo 230's and are happy with them. The front doesn't have the tread depth like the K81 and I'm tempted to try it next time.

My KZ650 originally came with Dunlop K87 (rear) and F6B (front) tires. They suck! I tried Dunlop K91 tires. They suck too! My BSA had Dunlop K70 tires. They suck too!
Guess what - I wouldn't put another Dunlop tire on my bike even if someone offered to pay me to do so.
If it's white lettering you're after you can buy a special marker made for that purpose and highlight the lettering on a decent tire as shown in the video below. Ed

I liked the K81's. The others "sucked." They are more modern now but still the same design. They are mainly for restoration purposes. I still like the look of the front tire.![B) B)](/media/kunena/emoticons/1.png)

We ditched the Dun-lops on my wife's bike and went with Shinko's because they had white walls
The first rear tire was out of round ,
but the front and subsequent rear tire are pretty decent, the Mrs likes them.
They are a lot softer then the dunlops, I hope they last the season
