I want to remove the spring to have it rechromed. Wondering if anyone has done this and can let me how.

The pin is buried in the casting. I guess it would be possible to drill enough on both sides to get to it then drive it out. I thought about switching the reflectors to my new shocks but if it failed, the Z1 shocks would be junk. I'll be posting the Z1 shocks on the KZMarket soon. Have to clean the dirt off first.

Yes.

You can use heavy duty zip ties (hvac section at Lowes) or make up a spring compressor. Top mount threads off. I used original Z1 covers on repro shocks.

That was a great idea Kid. The Ikon I used on my Z1 look great, very close, but do not have the reflectors. I am going to dig out my stockers and see how well those original covers might work with the Ikon shock. Likewise, I will see if our springs fit the stock shock - that might be faster and even cheaper than a rechrome.

IIRC, both the original Z1 and $100 aftermarket top mount are threaded.
