Shinko 120/90V-18 230 price was created by missionkz
1977 KZ1000A, fairly stock 1075cc motor.
Is $79.00 a good price, with free shipping, for one of these Shinko 230 120/90V-18 rear tires?
And is better then my Shinko 712 that is just about 500-750 miles away from being worn out in the center tread area at "around or under" 6500-7000 miles?

Amazon has it for 75.67 shipped and just under 77 from Chaparral (on Amazon)..... a little cheaper but not much...... have read on here some think its a step up and "might" go a little farther..... Ebay has the 712 (which I have) for 59 something ..... not sure if Amazon has it a little cheaper than that or not....... maybe do a search they have been talked about on here a little lately. ;)

$74.31 from American Motorcycle Tire

I tend to doubt the 230 will last longer than the 712, but I do think it's a better tire. It's V-rated for one thing.

The way things worked out this last couple years, I did a lot of higher speed, 70mph-85mph, interstate riding this year and it seems like the many miles of "straight'ish" line riding, really wore down the center tread on this 712 faster then I expected.
17 degrees this morning here in Denver and I don't expect to get many more long rides in this year so I was thinking a good time to pull the rear wheel off and have the tire replaced.
??
The shallowest part of the sipes are about 3/32" deep

I'm very happy with my Shinko 230 130/90-18. Almost all of my riding is on the HWY. I'll have to get a new one in Ja. That maks 6 months out of a tire on my daily driver.

Well.... not great but it's not total toast yet and I got almost a full 1 3/4 riding seasons on this one.... I put it and the matching 712 19" front on sometime in very late spring or early summer in 2015.
Kinda surprised and how flat the carcass is getting.
I'm not really complaining that much. I've worn out inferior handling Dunlops, at nearly 50% higher cost, in much shorter time and way less mileage!!
I might try the 230 with other supporting feedback here.

How do you keep the 130/90 tire from hitting the chain guard?

When I had the stock one it was a tight fit. That was when I ran a 510. I made my own one this time. The pastic one turned to SHT. The 230 has a hard rubber compound down the center of the tire. It seems to go away the last 1000 miles or so. I tried the 120 but because of all the speedo mishaps and changing them I lost track of the milage. I'm sure I'm getting more miles out of the 130n compared to the 120.
