Clip on removal - introduction

Hello, been using this site for the last month or so since I bought an 84 Gpz 550 doing research.

Planning on some mods but first priority is getting everything in great working condition. Currently running rough working through cleaning/sealing the tank, cleaning carbs, have plugs and new wires on the way but...
I cannot figure out what to use to get the clip on bars off. It looks like a giant Allen wreck, does anyone know what size?

It is the big 'hole' below the banjo bolt

You need an Allen key ,socket or hex bar or make a tool out of a bolt head that fits the recess.
Just measure across the flats to determine the size or find a bolt head that fits and measure that.
They are usually 17mm .

You might be able to use a metric bolt & vice grips. I would spray some penetrant beforehand & let it sit overnight.
Alternatively, a left-hand threaded bolt & nuts would make for a good tool, but metric might be hard to find. and there may not be an sae size that's close enough.

For disassembling the forks of my 81 650, I used a 1/2" LH bolt w nuts along with a socket & ratchet extensions --- the bolt head & nuts are 3/4" which is approx 19mm. then used a regular 1/2" bolt/nuts for re-assembly.

I made a hex tool using a bolt and two nuts one locking the other.

17mm bolt seems like the easiest way to go.
