ZR1100 final drive noise

Hope I'm not out of line by posting in regard to the 1993 Z, but here goes.

I've owned this '93 ZR1100 since it was nearly new. Bike was absolutely pristine when I got it, and although it now has about 35k on the clock, has always been well cared for and never ridden hard (well, not THAT hard, anyway). Bike is stone stock, save for a Corbin seat.


Recently, a faint "clock-clock-clock" sound can be heard and (very slightly) felt, just at low revs, when starting out or pulling away from a slow-speed turn.

Chain and sprockets have been replaced, and carefully aligned. Does not appear to be limited to first gear, and does not appear at higher speeds when bike is "lugged" - only at low speeds of about 5-10 mph. Think the countershaft bearing may be going?

Is the sprocket hub bearing sloppy?

check out the rear wheel rubber dampers,
behind the sprocket carrier. I had a ZX11 making a similar noise.

During my last ride out on my 1994 KZP1000, my bike developed a clicking noise from the final drive as you mention. The only time I could hear the clicking was when I was slowing down the bike to a stop. Once I am back on the throttle, the clicking would go away.
At first it sounded as though something was rubbing on the rear tire such as the rear fender plastic extension, usually under the seat. Got home, expecting to find something resting on the rear tire but, that was not it. I am thinking that my wheel bearings went south on me. Just purchased a set of bearings and will install soon. Will keep you posted! If you have a center stand on your bike, prop it up on the center stand, then spin the rear wheel and listen for any clicking as you mentioned and check for any side to side play on the rear wheel.
