Tried a number of things to stop this annoying squeal from my front brake.
Tweaks work for a hundred miles or less and the squeal is back.
Single rotor/caliper.
I've sanded both sides of the rotor with fine crocus cloth to break "glaze", cut multiple slots in the puck's brake material with a hacksaw blade and used anti-squeal goop on the back sides of the pucks.
Nothing has really worked for more then a couple hundred miles.
What's some tricks and tweaks you folks have tried to remedy this?

You need the kind of pad with the "squeal shim" built in.

Back in the 70's. Mercedes fixed squealing brakes by drilling the pads and gluing graphite in to change the friction. I just wear ear plugs.

I drilled the pads and put powdered graphite in and that worked. for about a week.

A few years ago I installed EBC brake pads on the front of my KZ650. Every time I touched the front brake they squealed so loud dogs would howl. I tried the brake goop and it helped for about 1 day. Then I filed a chamfer on the leading and trailing edge of each pad and that 95% solved the problem. After putting some miles on them they totally stopped squealing. When I replaced the rear pads I used genuine Kawasaki pads, and there was zero squeal. The EBC pads stop the bike very well, but I think the best bet is to use genuine Kawasaki pads. I now have some front pads in my parts bin waiting for the next pad change. Ed

Only factory pads work correctly, all others will squeel. I went through this years ago and came to the conclusion after trying every possible remedy. The only pads I found that didn't squeel were Vesra, but they wore out like 3x as fast as the factory pads. Next time I tried the Vesra they squeeled as well, but I got one decent set out of them, which beat out the other brands. Trouble with factory pads is they are $100 a set if they still sell them. I used to look on ebay and when ebay was still auction style a new set of pads could be bought for $15 or $20. Now that ebay is all buy it now style, I'm sure the buy it now price for pads is $250 for a set of pads.
Anyway, sad but true, If they squeel, you won't ever make that set of pads not squeel, you can only buy another brand and hope. Gets frustrating to say the least. My experience at least, others have had some home brew remedy, but I've tried all of them to no avail.

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

I might have one last set of NOS Kawasaki front pads in my parts boxes.
If I do, I'll try them.
These squealers are EBC.
Only about 1200 miles on them but simply much too embarrassingly noisy.
My riding buddies are all giving me that, "Dude!! What the f**k!!" crap when we ride.

Are these correct NOS pads for the 77' KZ1000a or are they from my old KZ750-LTD?
***************
EDIT
Checked the part numbers and they look like the right ones... not sure why I didn't just use these early this spring... damn it.

Based on the part numbers on the boxes it looks like they are the correct pads for the 1977 KZ1000-A1. Take a look at the link below to verify; pads are shown as #6 and #11. Ed

Notice the floating (loose) pad of the set has the anti squeal shim riveted to the back. That acts like a spring load so that it doesn't vibrate as you apply pressure. Cheap pads don't have that shim and they scream like a banshee.

You got it. I got EBC pads and used high temp copper silicon to glue those springs on mine. No squeal.

yeah mine are EBC and squealing like pigs.
Changing out the sprockets and chain tomo, may as well pull the front caliper too and replace those EBCs with these old NOS Kawasaki ones.
I hope you gents are right. It has really gotten bad the last couple hundred miles and I hate the open jaw stares I've been getting!!

I'm happy with my setup but now when I accelerate quick on the FWY my speedo swings wildly low to high after 70 mph. It just wags a little before then. Might be the cable but the first one didn't do that. GDS
