I'm working on my 1994 KZ1000P and one of the items I need to change are my front brake rotors. They're pretty worn, with a decent lip and lots of ruts. Measured thickness of the rotors is 0.171" (4.34mm) left and 0.174" (4.42mm) right. I believe the minimum spec is 4.5mm.

I've been looking for replacements, but everything I can find either doesn't seem to match properly (not for my exact model) or is $200+ for a single rotor. Am I missing something, or are rotors far more expensive than I thought?

Would it be possible to just find some other rotors that fit that aren't OEM? I'm assuming any 263mm wide, 5mm thick rotor with the right mounting points would work. I'm also looking at used rotors- there are a set on eBay that are measured at 4.7/4.8mm. They're cheap (under $60 with shipping for both), but I'm not sure it'd be worth it if they're only 0.2mm over spec.

Looking for any input the community has. Thanks!

That's what I have. They will last a long time.

Steve- are you saying your rotors are a similar thickness? I'm mostly concerned with how pitted/rutted the rotors are. I'd like to replace the pads as well, but not sure I'd want to run new pads on the rotors in this condition.

The Police bikes had sintered brake pads. They wore the disks out quickly. I have organic ones. The disks I took off are like new. Eventually I'll have them drilled in some sexy pattern but until then, I'm running these. One has a ridge but cleaned up nice and I'm running it. The stock disks are twice the thickness and look kinda clunky not to mention more unsprung weight. If yours are under spec, I'd get the others.

Take a close look at the rotors to see if they have the minimum thickness stamped into them as mine do. If so, and it you think there is sufficient meat left you may just want to have them resurfaced. Here's a place that does motorcycle rotors correctly (see link below). Ed
