KZ400/440 Fork Swap Pinch Bolt Question

I am following the awesome guide of DoctoRot www.kzrider.com/forum/5-chassis/597812-k...r-fork-swap-tutorial

Whats up with the absence of pinch bolts on the 440 forks. I just ordered a set that are also flush, no pinch bolts.

Anyone have any experience with this? All I could find was how the pinch bolts on the front axle/forks are used for alignment.

That fastening system I see is common on most KZs except that 440 model. Not sure if its significant, will try to find the manual for the 440.

I thought you were talking about the trees. The Z1's had one clamp but if yours works then what's the problem?

That's wrong they had two clamps but one side the axle screwed into the axle boss, the other side didn't.

No problem, I'm looking forward to getting rid of the 78 kz400 caliper. I am just curious about those pinch bolts, its seems there are a number of different front axles:

Solid front forks without pinch bolts with an axle and nut (KZ440 LTD)
Front forks with two pinch bolts and an axle and nut
And even a front fork with a threaded side and a pinch bolt side apparently

What are they for? Are they supposed to push the axle up against the top? Modern forks look to have only one pinch bolt in a wrap around style.

I honestly like the idea of less bolts to tighten with the kz440 ltd forks, but wonder if I am loosing anything in alignment? I guess my collars are going to have to be cut like little champions.
