drive chain too short.....

Ok to make a long story short. I had me new chain brought to a place to have a few links taken out.....they too out twice what I wanted. I call rk chain and they say the do not condone adding links on. Question is am I wrong for telling them I want a new chain seeing as adding links will void my warranty?

I've run my 1000 with two master links (needed a few links extra too) for a long time and have not had any issues.

That being said if the place that cut your chain did not cut it to your specs then, IMO, yes they should replace the chain.

I did not buy it from them. I live out in the country and the only place that does chain work is them and they are a implement dealer. That being said I left very precise instructions on how many I wanted out and it said the link count right on the bag plus i said any questions call me. I ordered the chain from z1. Mistakes are mistakes I understand that but just make it right is how I feel.

RK has to be concerned with liability, so they're not going to "recommend" anything unusual. You could always get the rivet style masterlink for the splice. You'll need the link press tool, but they're not that expensive. Then you'll be able to shorten the chain yourself next time. Was this an O-ring chain?

At least they acknowledge the liability. Not so with the one I bought on eBay that almost killed me.

They owe you a chain, but make sure they don't try to give you some ebay dog instead of the good one you got from Z1.

If it is O ring or X ring type, doesn't the pressing process destroy the seals and lube?

I am currently running a Z1 chain. When I shopped there for chain, all they had was O ring or X ring chains. It was a few years back, but I suspect they don't sell cheap all metal chains because they don't sell junky products.

It is their xring chain, I mean I know it might be fine. But man, it wasn't even out of the wrapping yet......I bought a new good quality chain so I didn't have to worry about failure. That's why I would be happiest with them just getting me a new one but I hate being "that guy" who throws a big fit about stuff.
