750 Twin B3 Wheels upgrade was created by Timbox
Did some searching to see if in can change out the wheels on my B3 Twin to something more modern. Dual rotors front and a crush drive wheel. My project bikes rear wheel has broken sprocket bolts in the hub, so even though I am having a shop drill and tap the broken bolts out, I would like to have different options.

It looks like the 1980's LTD's would fit the Twin B3 frame and wheel size? Just looking for a little guidance here.

Thanks in advance.

Not sure I undertand "older 80" because a B3 twin is a 1978 model bike.

I believe there are dual front caliper assemblies that can be hijacked from other models because I have seen it done before.

I guess what I was going for was to keep the same older style of the 78-80's bike and not go for USD front forks with completely different front end, disk and brakes. Just looking for a plug and play front and rear tire that would be able to slide into the already there forks and swing arm.

Sorry It was confusing, hope that clears it up a bit.

I don't know that much about swappable stuff, some guys here do.

Looks like the 750 LTD is a direct swap out front and back and just get the bake setup for the front end. The back might need different spaces but I think the chain line will be okay. It will be nice to have the extra brake disk up front and then a cush system for the back. I can't remember the last time I was on a bike that didn't have a cush drive.

If anyone else has done this please feel free to chime in.

Are you looking for spoked wheels or cast wheels?
Do you want to use modern 17 inch tires?
Do you want to keep the drum rear brake or convert to disc?
Do you want to stick with the stock B3 sizes?
LTD sizes? A larger diameter front wheel may necessitate fender modification.
Do you want to keep your mechanical speedometer?
Do you want the new wheels to match each other?

With so many variables at play, it is very unusual to find a strictly plug and play swap. The more of these sorts of questions you can answer, the easier it will be to answer the original question.

Having just sorted out the dual disk swap on my 750B1 I can tell you that rotors and calipers from a 80 KZ1000LTD or a 77-79 650LTD will just bolt right on. I kept my wheel stock so if you swap the wheel out this setup might not work of course.

EDIT Not 77-79 650LTD rather 77-79 Custom, duh.

I have a kz750b3 and a 1980 kz 1000 b4 and the wider kz 1000 cast wheel with duel calipers and rotors is a direct swap to the kz750b3. The rear wheel from a 79 or 80 kz1000a should bolt up too.

That might be a good idea but I am still looking more into a Scrambler bike when I am done.
Do you want to keep the drum rear brake or convert to disc?
My 750 B3 has a disk on the back
Do you want to stick with the stock B3 sizes?
At this time yes, the lines with these size tires makes the bike look like a Scrambler. If I were to change it up would have to stick with wheels that would give it the same looking lines.
LTD sizes? A larger diameter front wheel may necessitate fender modification.
That would be fine, this bike will be a ever evolving project as I keep riding her. She currently has 19 Front 16 Rear.
Do you want to keep your mechanical speedometer?
If I do get the itch to really change the way she looks all options are on the table. So a mechanical speedo is not a mush have.
Do you want the new wheels to match each other?
Matching wheels or very close to matching would be nice.

With so many variables at play, it is very unusual to find a strictly plug and play swap. The more of these sorts of questions you can answer, the easier it will be to answer the original question.

Thanks for the info, glad that you shared that with me. I know that someone had to have done the same thing I was thinking. Sense the front forks both already have the mounts for the calipers I thought it would be best to upgrade to a front with twin disks. The rear needs to have a cush so I will starting looking for a rear tire right away.

80B4 thanks again!

All of the kawasaki rear wheels have a cush hub. There were a few sets of aftermarket wheels made by Morris back in the mid 70's that did not have a cush hub in the rear wheel. I have looked for these Morris wheels since they were avaliable and the closest I've come is a photo on KZR.

Well I guess I have A Morris then. Once I get the wheel cleaned up I will check for some markings. What would the advantage be for the direct bolt sprocket to hub?
