Can you post a photo? If the plastic guard is rubbing, it seems like a metal one will rub as well. ???
If the problem is the shocks, maybe consider getting a set that doesn't rub. On some non-stock shocks the springs extend too far down or the springs are too large in diameter, hence the rubbing --- HD Sportster shocks for instance. Hagon shocks are a possible alternative.

My old chain guard deformed with age. PLASTIC. The chrome ones have a cut out where the shock is. It is what it is.

I'm not sure you can anymore unless someone knows where NOS or vintage reproductions are available. I too would like to know. There are some being advertised on eBay but they are for later models and the mounts are different. Just because it says for 73-80 doesn't mean they will fit.

That's an LTD style, different mounting points, could make different brackets, got a few of those with good chrome, will get a pic when I get a chance, working nights.

I think my chrome 900 style has shock marks on it

630 and 530 chain is essentially the same width.
KZ650's came stock with 530 chain
If the chain is rubbing something else is wrong, just trying to slap a chrome guard on it will not make the rubbing go away.
Find the real problem first
