900 standard I take it? The ltds came with a chrome one from the factory. There were a few aftermarkets for the standard out there, I've got one kicking around, get a pic when i can

Many, it not all, the LTD versions came with a chrome chain guard.
However, seems like I recall the the LTD guard has one of it's mounting holes in a slightly different location the the plastic KZ guard.

Why does the chain rub?

My guard rubbed against the tire and consequently the chain, because I ran a fatter tire then the stock 400x18..... I was assuming the previous poster did too.

The original chain was a 530, the first owner switched it to a 630 chain, he also installed different shock's, which rub on the chain guard, and push it in slightly, causing the chain to rub in the tunnel of the guard

Original was a 630, I believe every kz above the 550s was a 630 chain

You're right. All had 630 chains. In 75 they went to the O ring chain that made it even fatter. The chrome chain guards don't have a inner side to them. I just made my own. I'd like a chrome one but keeping it clean will be more work.

Aren't 530 and 630 chains essentially the same width?
