front wheel play

HI, I'm new here. I have a problem after changing my front tire on my 1985 Zn 700. After putting it all back together on the bike it has play in it from side to side. I made sure everything was put back together the same way I took it off.
It is something with the wheel hub i believe but I'm not sure. I need some advice. Thanks

Did you take out the axle?

I went searching for a parts diagram for an '85 ZN 700 but www.kawasaki.com was no help. if you go there and enter your VIN perhaps you could find the correct diagram.
In the mean time it sounds as if there's a spacer you left out. are you sure one didn't fall onto the ground while you were handling the wheel and you didn't notice it?
Good Luck

Are you sure you didn't reverse the axle? Is that even possible?

I found a diagram of the whole assembly and i have all the pieces. And no you cannot reverse the axle. I'm so confused.

I'd check the steering head adjustment. It might be loose.

Check to ensure you have the speedometer drive lined up correctly. Ed

Yea I made sure the they were lined up with the notches. At first i thought that was the problem but after reading my manual i saw that and tried again several times.

May be a long shot, but did you remember to tighten the axle nut before tightening the fork clamps?

Yep I sure did. The first time i didn't but i learned real quick that it wasn't in the whole way. so I loosened the clamp back up and tapped the axle in the whole way and tightened the axle nut . then tightened the clamp. Still same issue. I also thought by putting the brake calipers back on over the discs that would tighten eveything up but i still have play from side to side.. Almost like their is a small spacer or washer missing but im positive there isnt. I looked over the diagram and parts i have numerous times. They all match up.. Do you think if i put a small washer in at the axle would that maybe help or fix it?
