Modern sliders/crash guards for KZ1000?
11 Feb 2015 11:39 - 11 Feb 2015 11:40
ya know the black, nylon (plastic) tubes that bolt to the frame on modern sport bikes to protect bodywork in a crash?
These things:
Anyone know where to get some for a KZ1000?

I've not seen anything like that. Maybe there's something you can get from a Japanese custom bike website.
If you want to make some, you just need someone with lathe and ~$25 in delrin material.
Something to think about is the engine mounting points are relatively far from the outermost parts of the engine that you're trying to protect. I would be worried about the mounting bolts bending when the sliders come in contact with the ground due to the leverage.
Just my $0.02.

Those really don't protect anything a real crash. They are designed for tip overs. When you go down at anything over 20 mph those things are pretty much useless.

Those won't even hit the ground before your stator cover is gone. Looks like the bike would have to be almost completely horizontal before touching.

What Doug said. They are formodern sport bikes where most of the components are tucked up and behind. They mostly protect expensive body panels and do and amazingly good job at it. I would think the small cage around the bottom of the engine type would suit a KZ 1k better.

Case guards would have helped in the wreck.

I have those on my YZF600 and they have worked very well on that bike. Yes, the mount bolt did bend but no painted or engine parts were damaged. I have old school tube case savers for my kz"s. I think the mount points are too far away from the outer covers on the older bikes. I may have to make crash spools a project.
