What chain and sprockets are you using?

Hi!

My new bike needs a new chain and sprockets so I was wondering what you guys are using?

I'm thinking about swapping the stock sizes out with a smaller front / bigger rear since I don't really need the higher gearing around here (50-80km/h). But how low can I go and what kind of chain? 530?

530 is a great choice. It is done only one way....all new gear.

New Chain
New rear sprocket
New output shaft sprocket

The output shaft nut can be a real bitch to get off. Don't go hammering and getting all backyard redneck on it. If you ever have a problem with the bike, step back, get on forum and ask how to get it done. We are happy to help you.

An EK chain - X or O ring is a good one.

I wouldn't go too crazy as far as getting away from stock gearing is concerned. They set it up from the factory to be predominantly street friendly. One tooth down in the front(or the 530 equivalent) will make a pretty big difference. Any more than that, and you will constantly be on the shifter.

+1 Stock gearing is always pretty low to accommodate heavy loads like riding with a passenger.

The easiest way to get a countershaft nut off is to do it while the bike is still together and put a breakerbar on the nut, sit on the bike, and hold the rear brake while loosening the nut.
Always use the largest countershaft sprocket you can.
The chain will last longer.
Change gear ratio with the rear sprocket.

+1 Easier if you have an assistant. On mine, the torque spec on the shaft nut is about 100 ft-lbs so you need a good breaker bar.

Z1 had the best prices on good X ring chains when I got mine. It's lasted about 6 years so far. They also have the sprockets.

Z1 is in the States right? I'm in Scandinavia so I guess that would be expensive. Know any good dealers of parts in Europe?
