So I am guessing the 1000 tank wont fit eh? Whats close to that 1000 tank visually that might fit the 650D frame? I believe this 650 tank, seat and not sure what else may be for sale soon if I gan get this thing running and safe to ride. The owner wants to make it into a cafe racer...change tank, handle bars, seat ect.

I dont have a lot of back ground with Kaw's but I'm learning. So, I am relying on y'all for help and input.
Thanks
D

maybe try the kz650b or kz650c tanks. they look more like the kz1000 tanks. they may fit with little or no adjustment, but i have never tried.

Okay....thanks...I'll check with the owner and see if he wants to do that...if so I'll have to find a useable tank somewhere. I kinda wish he just leave it stock and ride it. Kind of a nice little bike.

i just checked the parts diagrams over at kawaski.com and the D2 uses the same rubber mounts as the B1, B2, B3 so likely it will be a direct swap

You could always shim the front rubbers.
Or add to the frame pins.
But there are two style rear hold downs.

The owner stopped by last night and I showed him your post. He said he'd consider it but sure liked the way that 1000 tank looked. He saw a pic of what he'd like to try and build. It was a 750 with a 1000 tank...all flat black, Bars were changed, no mirrors that I notice. I have to admit...it was a killer looking bike. When I figure out how to post pics I'll put it up.

Thanks for researching the tank for me

Thats a good idea. You said the 1000 frame was 1/2' wider than the 650 so there would be room to shim the 1000 tank. For some reason I was thinking it was backwards. I do that when I am tired!

So I take it that when you say frame pins you are talking about the pins that hold the tanks front rubber bushings on? Yeah...I could do that. But as you mentioned the back of the tank may be different. This 650 tank has a "blade" looking alignment pin that goes thru a rubber bushed hole in the frame. That pin may be an issue depending where it is on a 1000 tank. Id hate to but a tank only to find I either cant use it or adapt it. Where would I get info on dims for the 1000 tank?

Let me see if this will work,l This is what we are trying to get close to. I know they are two different bike with some major differences but getting close is good enough.

Thanks all

The KZ1000 tank rear mount does not use a blade it has this crappy rubber band you pull over a tab on the tank. prone to breaking. i have broken 2.

Looks like a 400/440 tank. To short and narrow to be a 650/750/1000 tank. There is a gap
between the steering stem and front of the tank.
