1980 KZ LTD Rear Wheel Swap
05 Mar 2014 09:15
I want to swap out my 16" rear wheel with with an 18" wheel. I'd prefer to keep the same style mag.
Does the 1980 KZ1000 or KZ1000 Police swap out without any problems?

Id say a rear wheel off of a 79-80 mkii bike would be a safe bet.

OK so i have been doing a lot of homework on this... .turns out the only 18" mag that fits on a ltd is the 1978 and 1980 z1r rear wheel. There was no z1r in 1979...I have found a wheel I just need a sprocket carrier .
Does anybody have a 1978 or 1980 sprocket carrier? :S
I already have the bearings...and I will be going with a 130 dunlop

Hey there,
I'm trying to do the same here, and I'm curious about the choice of wheel.
You say the only possible swap for 18" rear mag wheel is the Z1R. Why is that?
I got my hands on a 18" rear mag wheel, but I'm not sure if it's either from a KZP, a Z1R or if there is another model with the same mag wheel design. Trying to figure out which parts I need to make it fit.

As Wireman said, the MKII used a 18" rear as well. As do the police models, however I think anything after 1980 will not be a direct swap.
I believe Tizon may be a confused, as the Z1r was the only model to come with a 18" FRONT wheel. the police bikes came with a 18" front as well but it is not a direct swap.
