On a KZ650, which way is the stem pressed out after the weld is ground off?

1978 KZ650 D1 ~ Carb jetting: 107.5 & 20 & 4th groove with pods and 4-1 Exhaust

it will press from the bottom out the top.

Is that a flange that gets welded on the bottom of the stem to get pressed through an aluminum triple?

yes that sleeve gets welded on and then pressed into the donor triple.

Thanks Leon. I've just got to get mine pressed out and I'm going to set it aside till I see where thins settle out.
