Brake rotors

Trying to do a wheel swap on my kz400 project but ran into a big problem. Front wheel bolts up but rotor is too big. Can and do you guys think a machinist is able to take an 1/8th of an inch off the rotor? The wheel is off a 2009 Ninja 250. Other than that I would have to get the front caliber off a Ninja and make a bracket to fit the factory kz400 forks. Not for a complete swap of the front-end since the wheels were free.

I would think that would be pretty easy to do for a machinist.

Shouldn''t be a problem for any competent machine shop.

I'd bet even an incompetent one could probably get the job done....

so no safety issue with trimming brake rotors??that was my main concern since this is a wave type rotor.

I dont see any, as long as its cut nice and slow and he makes doubly sure the thing is centered in the lathe before starting. Cutting very slowly will be the key to not bending it or damaging it. But a competent machinist will see this.

If you are going to make a bracket to mount the Ninja caliper then you don't need to machine the rotor. Just design the bracket to put the caliper in the correct position over the rotor.

not having the caliper adds to cost and making the bracket means a fabricator to design it. Simple solution on my end is to cut the rotor 1/8th of an inch then add spacers to shim the wheel to center. Looking for a decent machinist in Houston,Tx as I type.

I think the one for his bike, he is just changing wheels.
