Oil cooler mount
15 Aug 2013 21:26
Hey all;
My oil cooler right now is being held in place from the PO with zip ties and wondering how this is actually supposed to connect. There's no place to mount this thing 2, so is there a bracket missing?
Any ideas? Thanks!

Will probably end up doing that. And since I don't have any horns, will make sure there's space for those when I buy some.
Thanks

See the dark rings around each of the mounting holes? There used to be a rubber isolation ring there so the cooler is not hard mounted to the frame. Since you will be fabricating a mounting bracket, you may wish to incorporate this feature into the mount.

The frame you have was not made for that oil cooler. It looks like you have a GPz750 engine but that is not a Gpz750 frame.

My 1100 has mounts built into the frame-looks like you'll have to fabricate something but shouldn't be too difficult looking at the photos.

Really it seems easy enough to do so not too concerned about it. Just weird that there is no bracket there. Probably start working on something tomorrow. Need horns now. Found the wires going to them, all just cut and taped.
baldy: to the best of my knowledge, everything (frame/motor) is how it was originally purchased.

If you can wait a couple of days, I will post the pics of my 83, which should be similar.
The cooler certainly looks like mine, perhaps the mount is as well.

Couple options....
1) Tap a couple holes in the lower neck area to align with top cooler mount holes.
2) Tac weld a couple bolts on lower neck area to align with top cooler mount holes.
3) As mentioned, use side reflector holes for mounting a fabbed mounting bracket.
Earls cooler had side mounts, so fabbed side brackets & used side reflector threaded holes for securing each side to cooler.....
if it helps/provides some ideas....

I know yours is a 750 but heres how i did my 1000.
I drilled two holes in the side plates on the frame and bent two long bolts to allign with the cooler than secured them with two nuts.
Then i drilled two holes in the front plate and made a flat bracket that bolted up to the mounting tabs on the cooler, then bolted it to the frame.

All good ideas and everything looks great. I'll play around with it (didn't have a chance to today) this week and post back my results.
Thanks!
