Fork Brace Dilema

I was excited about scoring a vintage ATK fork brace on ebay, but upon delivery I discovered that it mounts to the top of the sliders without any provisions for using the dust boot. I've seen some bikes with internally mounted dust boots/wipers. Is anything like this available for our Kaws?

can you not just leave the dust covers in place and attach the brace under them to the top of the slider?

those don't look like kz fork legs either.

You're right, those aren't KZ fork legs. It's a picture I pulled off of Google to illustrate the type of seal I'm talking about. Here is an example of a brace similar to mine on a KZ.


The difference is that the one shown has a groove in the brace to hold the dust seal. It already requires spacer blocks for the center section to clear the fender, so I don't think I could lower it even farther. Plus you can see the original dust seal grove below the brace pictured. There isn't enough "meat" below it for a brace to grab onto.

how about boring the fork leg holes open enough to let them clamp around the dust boots as well.
like the tarozzi?

That is a possiblity. Some braces are designed to do just that, although I think the tarozzi for the KZ has provisions for the dust boot to go above. Kinda like the xs650 version here:

I prefer to mount solidly as possible to get the most out the fork brace, but I may not be able to do that without ditching the dust boots.
