Swing arm mod blues

Well, I have everything together, but the chain rubs the top of the swing arm pivot tube. I have a 17t front and 48t rear. I have the ass up kinda high and I know I could lower it a bit but I really like the stance now. Has anyone ever relocated the pivot location with success? It looks like its my only choice. Ps its an 82 kz1000 csr with an r6 swinger, thanks dudes!

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationNo eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationTrying to move that pivot could be a nightmare. Instead of opening that can o' worms, you may want to fabricate a chain glide / guide. I had to do that when I stuffed a bigger engine in my BSA. In case you've never seen one, here are a couple eBay pics to give you an idea of what I'm talking about. Basically, it's a shield that the chain slides on to keep it from sawing into the swingarm pivot. Ed

I can't see the pics u put up, but I have considered that. I just see that being a very temporary fix. Plus, it's on the top, which is the side where all the tension is right? If I look down the chain it comes to a slight peak where the pivot is, maybe an eighth too high, just resting. I know I'll need more clearance once I'm riding and things are bouncing around. A slider will only make that peak a bit higher. I know I could pull a bit of material off the pivot tube but will it be enough? How much clearance is needed there?

Dave,
don't remove anything off your swingarm! Those sliders are tough as nails and will last well over a season of riding. Look at any modern dirtbike (CRF450 etc.) and you'll see exactly what 650ed is telling you. They are DESIGNED to have the chain drag over them. Also, The tension on them will decrease as the bike is loaded. Good luck, Paul

Don't cut on the pivot tube; that could create a bigger problem and may not keep the chain from hitting it. Here are links to the pics:

I have a drz400 and the sliders on that run along the flat of the swinger. And only at rest, when the chain comes tight it lifts off. When the chain comes tight on mine, it presses down on the tube. I'm away right now but I will post some pics tomorrow.

The stock 83-85 GPz750, 90-2001 ZX11, and ZX12, all use a chain slider on top of the swing arm. Temporary fix, it ain't.

A lot more bikes use a chain slider, but I'm familiar with the ones I listed.

Huh.... The r6 swinger came with one like the 2nd link Ed posted, I just assumed it was more of a slap-guard and not a slider.

When you sit on the bike the suspension should sag 1"-1.5" and get the chain up off the swing arm.

Be careful, the higher you lift the back end, the steeper the front end rake, and the stability decreases, and the more chance of a tank slapper.

Have someone take a pic with you sitting on the bike and with no jack under it to see how much the chain rises off the swingarm when the rear suspension compresses. Ed
