New to this site as of 12-12-12

Hello ! I am new to this blog thing and just got one question in three parts.

First is "What is the best front fork replacement/ swap for a Z-1 "
second is " what rear swingarm fits and will give me three more inches in length."
Third is, I have mags on my bike now, does anybody know where I can find a set of wire wheels for my bike and dual disc brakes on the front from ? wouldn't mind finding an aluminum triple trees for my bike as well.

Tripple trees like these?

185mm spacing/36mm fork diameter/30mm offset. Top tree 1-1/2" thick and bottom 2-1/2" thick. These were made to fit the kz forks with reduced offset.



Or these?

210mm spacing/51mm fork diameter/24mm offset. ZX7 to Kz conversions

The budget is 3K now and as time goes I will do more, planning on putting lots of time into detailing and custom parts ( some I might put up for sale at my cost to MFG them) But I am looking for the right parts that fit and work correctly as a good foundation to the rest of the build, So 3K is my current budget for front forks/triple trees and a rear swing arm set up. Thanks.

Damn Les, very nice ! I like them, So I was envisioning kinda using the stock forks with a slightly increased rake, moving the front wheel out say two more inches. slightly lower stance. I would consider using different fork tubes or a completely different forks altogether, I don't want them any more straight up/ less angled then stock. So ? lower, more degrees.

I like the look of these, that would be the trick to get the look I am thinking of for my Cafe' racer styled cruiser. very nice .

A complete sport bike front end will cost you about $600.00, including triples, forks, axle, brakes, master cylinder, hoses calipers...

I do not know how much wire wheels would cost but Light weight vacuum cast wheels run about $500.00 a set with rotors... Wire wheels will cost probably double that...

A good sport bike swing arm will cost you about $50.00 to 100.00 with mono shock, linkage, pivot shaft, axle and spacers...

For about $100.00 to $150. you can probably buy sport bike stock adjustable rear sets, with rear master cylinder, hose, rear caliper and rear caliper bracket...

Machine work that you will need is going to be replacing the Sport bike stem with your KZ stem... then manufacturing a top triple with a drop down to give you the proper KZ fork lenght...

The swing arm pivot spacers have to be made to meet the requirements of the KZ swing arm pivot bolt, and the sport bike swing arm...

If you are going with the Monoshock you need to do the bracing at the identical location as the swing arm donor frame... This is easier say than done... If you can get a broken frame from the donor bike MAKE A JIGto duplicate it 1,000,000%!!!!!! Otherwise you will have to draw it in paper... Measure the donor frame and your KZ frame some good 20 times in a complete 3 dimensional way... Up and down... Front to back... And side to side...

I will strongly suggest you pick 1 donor bike... It is so much easier this way!!!! If you go with a Kawasaki 2005 ZX6R (Random example)... Buy all the parts from the same seller... He will give you a better price... And if you ever need replacements you know exactly what you need... Mixing brands years and models means you will have to make every bolt fit and if you need some one to do it for you it will cost you money... What I mean is a 2005 ZX6R front wheel will fit like a glove on 2005 ZX6R forks...The ZX6R calipers will fit perfect... 2005 ZX6R front fender will fit perfect... EVERYTHING will match!!! Trust me you will appreciate the simplicity!!!

Same with the rear end... If your mounting points are the same you can call a suspension shop and dial your KZ/ZX6R rear suspension with proper spring rates... I can help you move the chain close to the center of the wheel to help you align the chain... Also on a ZX6R rear wheel, you can mount a beefier and taller 190/55ZR17 rear tire...

I agree 100% with SBK, buy as much as you can from one bike. All of mine is from an 09 ZX6R, forks, brakes complete front and rear and wheels. I machined the stem to take KZ bearings, plenty of meat to do it on the newer stuff, and made the top tree. About anything can be used but the headaches and the work involved sometimes outweights the results.

Something like this is what is needed to properly fit a sport bike front end on a KZ...

You have me rethinking my thinking here guys, I was looking at the GS1100 swing arm to keep the back looking kinda stock, Lower and longer with vintage wire wheels, but Now I will look into the ZX6R thing. The front end , I can go in any direction at this moment, I want clean and simple, tough and race ready looks. It will all be painted or powder coated. But doing a complete swap might be the ticket...... So please keep talking and I am listening. thank you for you help and useful information .
