Hello Everyone,

I recently purchase a 1982 Kz 750 and I am looking to swap out the swing arm with my 2002 Kawasaki Ninja Zx6r swing arm to have a monoshock set up. Can anyone share some advice to set this up? Instruction/pictures will be much appreciated.

I am also new to the site didn't get to search everything. Apologies in advance if there was already a post.

Thanks,
Chris

Welcome to KZR! Click the link in my signature for a similar project. I fitted a mono shock GSXR 750 swinger to my 78 KZ1000.

I fitted an 03 ZX6 to my KZ900. Don't know if the KZ750 is similar. I didn't have to modify the frame or swingarm but you will need to build some spacers and reducers. The ball bearing is recessed so you need a spacer to take up the gap to the frame, sized to fit the seal and matched to your axle. I ran the spacer into the bearing as well. There's a long aluminum tube with bearing flanges that rides in needle bearings. The id is too big and needs to be reduced to fit your axle. I don't think you need to reduce the whole lengh, I just made a couple bushings out of aluminum about 1" long or roughly the same length as the bearing flanges. After that you would need tabs or a clevis for thr lower shock mount and a bar tying into the sides of the frame to connect the upper shock mount.

I swapped a 03’ ZX6 swingarm into my 82” KZ750R1 frame. It wasn’t too difficult to make it fit. I am a machinist so I have an advantage over most.
1. The first thing I did was to get measurements of everything and I decided the best way for me to get the swingarm in was to make a new shorter collar to replace the existing collar.
2. I then trimmed the swingarm sleeve to the overall length and reamed it to accept the stock swingarm bolt.
3. I did have to trim the inside of the frame (almost a ¼” I think) to fit the swingarm in. I did this with a spot facing tool with a long extension (picture) on it and a hand drill. Once in I had full movement and to my surprise the knuckle lined up with the mount for the center stand.
I hope this helps. Also oldmanrock posted a step by step PDF on how he mounted a ZX6 swingarm to his 76' KZ900.
I have a PDF of my drawing thou I can't add it to the thread PM me and I'll send it if you would like.
