There is no technical reason why not. You might need to have a breaker plate drilled to mount the points and consenser. Not sure if there is a mechanical advance unit that could be hijacked from another model? You would need one of those.

i AM HEAVILY MEDICATED BUT WHY?? the reason for rllecertronic ignition is reliability fist and foremost why wou;d ome wanty to modify somrthin decrease the trliability only. not to mention a the milliion other benetits of electroboic ignition do you plan on putting an 8 track back in your car also?

I appologize for being rude unless there is some wild racing set up that would benefit from it or some new point related injection system that statement should leave your mind or you should buy a mush older version of your bike to increase your level of agrivation in tuning/

The only reason in the world to go back to points would be the huge cost of replacing the failed factory setup. If that is the reason, then possibly Dyna makes an aftermarket setup. Not sure. Otherwise going back to points is like taking the fuel injection off a new car and going back to the old Rochester Quadrajet from 1967. I lived in 1967, and won't go back there in time reliving points and carbs again.

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

You dont have to understand a Dyna.....you plug in 3 wires, set it in 10 seconds and never need to touch again.....points suck and from the day you set them....which is a pain in the azz.... they are wearing and going bad....

The start-up cost to go from points to electronic ignition is an issue and I can understand this as a problem these days..... B)

Glad to see you got it set up. My view is that there are pros and cons to points and electronic ignitions. Points do wear and need to be replaced every 8-10,000 miles, but they generally will not have a hard failure. Electronic is nice because you set it and forget it; but if it fails it will leave you on foot.

Having said that, I wouldn't change my KZ650 from points to electronic because I can easily pop in a new set of points & condensers quickly every few years when needed (because I've had the bike so long and am familiar with the procedure).

But by the same token, I would never consider changing my cars or truck from electronic to points as the electronic is maintenance free and has never left me stranded (yet).

Hey Ive got a collection of rochechester quadrajets, some of them are actually really good carbs if youre smart enough to work on them! :woohoo: (Holleys suck! )
And you can have my 8 tracks when you can pry them from my cold dead fingers! :woohoo:
As far as points go yeah theyre a pain to deal with but you can generally file them down enough to limp home as long as yough have access to a screw driver a rock and a match book to gap them with, when electronics goes down you just start walking/pushing! :woohoo:

At least if you have a points ignition it will still run after experiencing a EMP event from a nuclear bomb explosion :P

Points use less juice, you can jump start with points and run on a burnt out fuse!
